Description

Kansas City’s Streetcar has fast become one of the most successful modern streetcar programs in the country. Both ridership and economic development have skyrocketed past projections. This story will be told from the perspective of the design consultant: what went into the design, construction, and testing of the system; the project manager: how to transition from plan-to-project-to-program; the transit advocate: how to organize community support for a transit initiative.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, you will be better able to: 

  • Use a variety of funding, communication, and contractual strategies to deliver a project.
  • Transition a project from conceptual planning through design and construction into service.
  • Organize a grass roots effort in support of local infrastructure projects.
