Description

The Joplin, Missouri tornado was a mile-wide EF5 tornado that created a path of rubble through the heart of the southern part of the city. Join us for an update on the progress of redevelopment strategies and the role that public works played in recovery.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, you will be better able to: 

  • List the steps to getting public input and establishing a redevelopment infrastructure plan.
  • Work with federal agencies, such as HUD, FEMA, and FHWA, to procure funding and design a plan that meets stringent federal guidelines.
  • Take advantage of Joplin’s lessons-learned as they managed public involvement and traffic coordination during the largest construction effort in city history.
