This program will give you an overview of the components and steps involved in becoming Accredited.

The Self Assessment portion is the first step of Accreditation process. It requires your agency to compare what you are already doing well with the Management Practices accepted as best practices in the industry.
The Improvement Phase is the second step of the Accreditation process, it involves reviewing what you do with those who actually do the work and developing written documentation that validates the policies, practices, and procedures.
Accreditation is the final step to successfully gaining the respect of your elected officials, citizens, and other city departments. It is acknowledging and recognizing excellence in the field of public works. Are you ready?

This program will provide the answers to your Accreditation questions. What is Self Assessment? What are the benefits to the agency? How do we use the 8th edition of the Public Works Management Practices Manual? What is the best format for guiding the program? What is documentation and how much do you need to provide? How does the on-line software benefit us? Organizing for the process to ensure success in a timely manner. Training your staff in the process.

What is Accreditation and why should we do it? How much time will it take? How much will it cost? What benefits have other agencies found from completing the process? How do we prepare for a Site Visit? What happens during the Visit? What happens after the Visit? How often will be go through Re-Accreditation?

After attending this session, participants will be better able to:

Discuss and define Self Assessment and Accreditation.
Work through the program to a successful conclusion as well as gain an understanding of the APWA on-line software
Prepare for a site visit and documentation review – which is the final step towards being recognized as an Accredited Agency
