Paz Gomez currently serves as the Deputy City Manager, Public Works, with the City of Carlsbad, in which she is responsible for operations, maintenance and engineering in transportation and drainage, water and wastewater utilities, and city facilities, fleet vehicle management, environmental sustainability, capital improvement program, construction management and inspection, and contracts administration.
Paz was similarly responsible for public works with the City of San Diego from 2015 to 2018 and a Vice President for engineering services with URS/AECOM in the La Jolla office from 2011 to 2015. In 2011, she retired as a Captain after decades of active duty in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps, with her last tour of duty as Commanding Officer of the Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center in Port Hueneme, California.
Paz is a registered civil engineer, certified energy manager. green building engineer and certified public manager. She received her BS in Civil Engineering from San Diego State University; MS in Civil Engineering from Stanford University; MS in Management from Troy University; Advanced Executive Certificate from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University; Professional Certificate in Hazardous Materials Management from University of California, San Diego; and graduated from the Naval War College Seminar Program.
Paz is also a member of the American Public Works Association (currently immediate Past President of the San Diego and Imperial Counties Chapter), American Society of Civil Engineers and Association of Energy Engineers.
