PWX draws thousands of public works professionals from all over the world…

Several years ago, the Village of Elk Grove Village reassessed its approach to the maintenance of its 20+ miles of open channel waterways. What were multiple contracts per year for assessment, maintenance, design, and construction are now performed by one annually renewed assess-maintain-design-build contract. This alternative approach to the village's maintenance and construction needs simplified its annual procurement needs while providing more comprehensive annual results. This presentation will review both the details of the contract and program management and some of the application of the maintenance, continual assessment, GIS condition dashboard, and construction of necessary improvements.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the benefits of alternative approaches to contracts.
  • Discuss how assessment, maintenance, design, and construction are all related.
  • Consider turning projects into programs.
